Default Undercarriage Insulation Blanket

2002 1500 Quad 4x4. Some type of insulation/blanket got wet and coming off the underside of the cab. It is cut to fit the rack and pinion and everything else under there, but the weight of the water is pulling it off the underside of the body. What is it? Is it important? Does it need to be replaced or removed? New to all this, my 16 year old is an aspiring mudder.

Thanks.

I am trying to think of what you could be referring to. Is/was it on the firewall?

It is not on the firewall, it is parallel to the ground. It is above all the shafts and has cut outs to fit perfectly. It was not a problem, or even noticed during a pre-buy inspection (leak check). In other words, it is attached directly to the floor of the cab and is probably about 3' x 4'. I don't think it's after market. I imagine it's some kind of insulation to handle road noise, but it is not water friendly. The truck has 170,000 miles on it and I'm I can't imagine it's the first time it's been exposed to mud and water, but it's coming down. I'll try to post a picture in the morning. Thanks.

Edit: Pictures are up. Not the best. I'll take some in the AM with a better perspective.
