Default 86 ram, fuel problems

hey everyone i'm new on here and hoping you can help me with some advice. Got an 86 ram, New fuel pump but it's still not getting gas to the engine and wont run. Poured some gas in the carb and it ran for about 10 seconds then died. I'm at a loss......could it be the fuel filter? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks again

It could be a filter or possibly the filter sock in the tank. Try the fuel filter first. Then if doesnt work try putting a pressure gauge on before the carb and see if you are getting any fuel pressure. You can also run a line from a gas jug to the inlet on the fuel pump and see if it gets gas to the carb that way. This will tell you if you have a problem with the lines or tank if it runs off the jug.

Yeah, definitely try the gas jug test. My '84 RC had a line failure 6 years ago (so yours is definitely old enough). It was the rubber segment connecting the tank to the metal line. Looked find from below but when I felt on the top side I could feel a crack. It'd finally dry-rotted through. It literally was running fine one minute. A couple hours later it wouldn't. Replaced the line and it was fine.

I only have a 77 Slant, does your year have an electric or mechanical fuel pump? You can always disconnect the fuel line from the front of the carb, hold it over a mason jar or plastic cup, and have a friend either turn the key to on for just a second if it's an electric, or crank the engine very briefly if it's mechanical, and see if you have any fuel coming out of that line. The carb needs only a relatively low amount of fuel pressure, so if you have a bit of fuel coming through to it, suspect the carb. If the floats are stuck or not adjusted correctly, they may not be allowing fuel into the carb, or any number of other carb-internal problems. Has the truck been sitting for any length of time? If so, the carb will almost definitely need rebuilt.
