Default Advantage of after market cold Air Intake on 2013 RAM V8

The stock configuration has a cold air intake. It pulls the air in from over the wheel well. That being the case, is there any significant gain to be had by installing an aftermarket cold air intake?

You said it correctly in that our stock air boxes are pretty efficient in grabbing outside cooler air temps via wheel well compared to a short ram CAI that sits just above the right side exhaust manifold soaking up all that heat. The only true gain you will make from aftermarket CAI's is a louder growl under the hood when you put the pedal to the metal. Just throw in a drop in replacement filter like an oiled K&N or Spectra filter and call that OE CAI done son!

the aftermarket cai will make alot more sound,..

ive first replace the stock with a k&n replacement filter, witch gave ma about no gain in sound but after ive replace it with a k&n cai and the sound its makes is way louder,.. i love it

so if you would like some sound yes you would gain from that but for performance,.. not sure,.. theirs lots of theads debating on this

On the 4th Gen Ram the only advantages you have of swapping out a CAI for another CAI is you have fun doing it cause you like to mod, it will make more engine noise cause you like the engine noise, it will look cool cause you like that cool look, you can have a permanent filter that you will clean and grease every now and then cause you like to do that as part of your maintenance schedule, Significant Gains? not gonna happen.

With the Vararam Air Grabber, it freed up space so I can add a second battery.

A CAI will make you gas mileage go down from you wanting to hear the sound it makes.
You will suffer lead foot syndrome, but gain bragging rites.
No real performance gain, but a lighter wallet.

Thanks to all who replied for the advice. I think I'll skip putting on that CAI, but I may give the filter swap a try. Short of installing a supercharger, I'm not certain what to do for substantial performance gains over a stock configuration.
