My 2013 2500 hemi has the shifter on the column. Guess what I have in the floor. My four-wheel-drive shifter. That is what I'm picky about I love the four-wheel-drive gearshift in the floor.

The 8-speed transmission is a thing of beauty. You'll get used to the dial in no time. Only took about a week before it became second nature.

If your okay with a knob I have no problem with that. But dammit I want to shift my truck into gear and NOT knob it into gear! HELL it don't even sound right I just want it as an option and if it's not than my next truck won't be a Ram.

I still smile every time I go for a drive. Shifts are soooo buttery smooth. A lot of the time I can't tell its even shifting without looking at the tach.

Thats what i experienced when I took one out for a test drive...and i made sure i had one with the 6 as well....that was before i did much homework on it anyway...i hope mine runs as well as that thing...i was in it for about 30 min, around town, out on the interstate, and on a gravel road....ill be happy, knob OR "shifter"....that was hardly a deal breaker....

It's not a matter of "cutting costs" or "charging extra" for the knob. The fact is, that the 8-speed is a fully electronic transmission. No longer is there a shift linkage from a shifter to the transmission. It's all controlled via a signal over a network, and the transmission shifts itself. Look at any vehicle on the market with the ZF 8-speed. There is no shifter... there's either a knob or a two way shifter (pull back for drive, push forward for reverse, press a button for park). Electronic shifting is more precise and more reliable (two wires on a network last a lot longer than a shifter cable and linkage).

I find the knob is easier and faster than the old 6-speed shifter. Get in, press the brake and just flick it to the right and off you go.

I said EXACTLY the same thing to the dealer right before I drove the truck. Do I "like" it... NO. But after you drive one you just may change your tune. The dial is right beside my right knee. I drove the 6-speed also. It was nice. But I thought the console shifter was "too close" - couldn't rest my hand on it (more like a forearm)

No, you can't get a 2500 with an 8 speed.

Indeed, and agree with the above

We ordered our 14 yesterday, and the 8 speed with the dial was going to be a deal breaker if I could get it, was offered a 13 with a 6 sod, and flatly refused

Like the advance in tech, I think the dial is kinda cool!
