Default Can't decide what Truck to buy.

I have a 2011 Ford F150 Ecoboost and last fall I purchased a new Fifth Wheel. 40' Palamino Sabre that sits on my seasonal lot. Weighs approx 11000 pounds empty. I am looking for a bigger truck so that I can someday tow this bad boy. I have narrowed down a few choices.

1. 2012 Ram 2500 with 6.7 Cummins - used with 87000km on it. - I am worried about this one due to the front end problems I have heard about - should I be?

2. 2013 Ram 2500 with 5.7 Hemi - new - sounds good but will it pull my fifth wheel comfortably? I know nothing of these engines - I do hear mileage is not great.

3. 2011 Ford F350 with 6.7 Diesel - used with 97000km on it. - Well I like Ford and this truck is a beast, I have also heard it has it's share of issues.

If you had my Fifth Wheel what truck would you choose? I am going to look at these units tomorrow.

Thanks in advance

i don't like that you have to remove the cab to work on the ford diesel.
i am biased towards dodge and the cummins. now tell me, why aren't you just going to a 3500. as for the front end, ball joints are the weak spot. i think there was a problem with the tie rod ends a while back.

Dry or "empty" weights are meaningless to fully evaluate a tow rig. You need to look at the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the trailer which represents the maximum total weight of the trailer. So GVWR will include the weight of the trailer plus water, propane, gear etc. in other words, the trailer ready to go travelling. I'll jump out on a limb and assume it will handle 2500 pounds of stuff, so if that were the case, the GVWR would make it 13,500 lbs. call it 14K. In this weight rating and for a 5th wheel, a 3/4 ton would work and do the job but I would go with a 1-ton cuz you can never have too much truck when it comes to towing. If it were me I would stick with the Cummins in either 3/4 or 1 ton. The Cummins diesel is a towing beast. If you elect to go with a 1-ton, you might want to consider a dually, as it will provide more stability, although know that SRW's are capable.

These are the trucks I have found in my affordability range. Hard to find a used 3500 around here that is in my price range.

Definitely the 3500 Ram. Ford diesel is a biotch to work on (cab removal required in a lot of cases).

87000kmis NOTHING for a cummins diesel.

Believe it or not the 2013 5.7 Gas has a higher payload and tow rating due to the 4.10 gears than the 2012 6.7 Diesel by 1200 pounds tow rating and 600 pounds on the payload.

The Cummins for sure.

I have never personally owned one, but everyone that I know that has, swears by them and it seems to fit your situation the best.

The tow rating on the Cummins is 12250, my GVWR on my Fifth Wheel is 13923 and payload on truck is around 1950, it would be very tight towing my unit. I know it would do it just want to know that it will handle the load for sure.

How much you can tow also depends on the truck configuration such as regular cab, crew cab, mega cab, long bed, short bed, gear ratio, 4x2 or 4x4.
Take a look here at Trailer Life Tow guide http://www.trailerlife.com/trailer-towing-guides/ it breaks it all down by make, model, year and the various configurations.
