Question 2013 Brake Assist Controller?

This brake assist worked fine on my 2004 Dodge Truck. Got plug in with 4 wires from Dodge place to put my aftermarket brake assist on my new 2013 Big Horn. Wired wires right. plugged in and felt wire getting hot. Unplugged and went to Dodge place. They are telling me I have to buy one and it has to be programmed in. What the heck....
$300 parts and labor. Anyone run into this? Any ideas about this situation?

1500 or 2500? The 2013 1500 has a different electrical system and requires the new brake controller harness with 2 connectors for aftermarket controllers. I know this because I had to order the harness for my Prodigy.

2013 Ram 1500 ST 4x4
Big Horn, said the brake assist (Mopar)would have to be programmed in computer on truck. Will aftermarket ones work? checking out web now. Dodge wants $300 for parts and labor saying they have to program (Theirs) in.

Mine is an older version and Reese says it isn't compatible. Told me which ones, and the harness to buy. No programming required. So Dodge was trying to get me to buy their product to make more money off of me. Thanks to the internet they will not. I will be decussing this with them.

I use a Tekonsha P3. Of course I had to buy their wiring harness adapter but for $25.00 it was worth it to me. Works absolutely flawlessly. Plus you can store three different settings for the same trailer ( dependent on how loaded the trailer is) I use different settings. Or set it for three different trailers? No complaints at all.
