Default Spark plug question and theory

Let me start with the question. Is it really important to change the plugs at 32k as the manual states? I have an 07 Charger R/T and I changed them at 30k and again at 60k. Both times the plugs that came out looked almost new. They are much easier to get to on the Charger. The Ram looks more difficult. My point is that I really believe in proper maintenance, but is 32k overkill?
My theory is that modern engines have a pcm that constantly monitors and adjusts the tune to keep it running efficiently. Back in the day a vehicle would get out of tune and plugs got fouled. I'm not trying to be lazy, but it looks like a harder job than the Charger.

its really not that hard. 1-2 hours tops.

best to take the driver side wheel and plastic wheel lining out to access the ones by the brake booster (if the same as on the 3rd gens, I think it is)

I did it in 2 hours and if it was first time every changing spark plugs on any vehicle

The manual for my 2013 says every 30K... I'm also wanting to know if this is really necessary

Well if you pull a plug or two from both sides for inspection purposes at the 30K mark, as long as the electrode and ceramic insulation still appear in good condition, I think you will be alright. Theoretically speaking of course.

You can go longer without much loss in performance. But I wouldn't go to 60k. Do maybe 50k. Slight loss in performance and mpg may occur. If you drive easy go longer, if you drive hard change them sooner.

I did mine today on my 06 that I just bought. It has 100k miles on it and I am guessing the plugs were original. I pulled 0-60 numbers to see the difference.

Old plugs 0-60, temp 89 degrees
10.1 sec
10.1 sec
10.2 sec


New plugs 0-60, temp 94 degrees
9.3 sec
9.3 sec
9.4 sec

As you can see, new plugs make a huge difference. However, I thought the plugs were good for 60k miles, not 30.

I did mine at 32,000 and I am pretty sure they could have went to 50-60,000 easily

A co-worker showed me his plugs that had 50k on them. he has a 08 ram hemi. They looked real good. he is a calm driver, but does pull a 28 ft travel trailer with it during the summer.

I am gonna wait til 50k to do mine. I dont drive it hard, and use High quality (shell) gas.

Just a tid bit. I am a service manger at a repair facility, most hemis are using a copper regular resistor plug. Champion rc14mcc4. That plugged is rated from the manufacturer to only last 30k. Also if you have a warranty issue that is to be covered under your factory provisions you have to be able to provide proof of plugs being changed every 30. I do agree when I pulled my plugs at 30 and 60 they looked new but for $32.00 for the parts and about 2 hours, I think its justified to do every 30.
