Default Ram 2500 with Hemi

Hello,
Just a simple question I think. Does the 2500 with Hemi, 5.7 or 6.4, cost more to maintain and such then one in the 1500. From what I understand the diesel can cost alot in extra maintenance so was just wondering if upkeep and such would be no worse with the Hemi then my 1500. Ofcourse MPG would suffer. Thanks.

some parts, like brakes, might cost more as they are heavy duty parts. wouldn't let that keep me away though.

The Hemi is exactly the same maint wise between trucks. The diesel isn't really all that bad though. While it does take more oil at change time, they are saying 15,000 between changes so it kinda averages out. You change the fuel filter too but that's not too big of a deal. It would come down to if you needed the extra diesel torque for towing or not as to which one to choose.

The Hemi MPGs suffer in the 2500 compared to the 1500 due to weight and no MDS. Figure realistically at least 3-4 mpgs less. My 2012 2500 Hemi gets at most 14 mpg. Previous 09 Hemi got up to max of 18 mpg. Both hand calculated, same roads and conditions. The new 2014 2500 trucks have a front axle disconnect which is supposed to help by about 1 mpg.

Although I love EVERYTHING about my 12 RAM Sport 1500. I'm contemplating on trading it for a 14 Ram sport 1500 or a 2500 Laramie with a HEMI. I like that their are many upgrades to the 2014 which is the cause for a posable trade up. My only questions (atm) are, I keep seeing a bigger HEMI option? cant seem to find anything on the RAM website on it? but I think it is a 6.2L. I really like the power that the stock 5.7L HEMI provides in my 1500 sport Quad cab, but I'm curious on how it would perform in the 2014 2500 crew cab with the 8 speed. If all it would take is a few performance mods (Bullydog/CAI) situated in a 2500 to perform as it does in the 1500, I would definitely go that route. my concern would also be with MPG's as well as my 1500 HEMI is great considering its a full size truck.

There is no 8 spd on the 2500 with any of the engines.

The new truck Hemi is a 6.4, 410 horsepower and 429 lb.-ft. of torque. It has MDS unlike the 5.7 which is still available.

You're never going to see the same MPGs as a 1500. The 2500 is a heavier truck.

There is a huge difference in ride quality between the 1500 and 2500. Supposably with the new rear coil springs on the 2500, it should ride a little smoother.
