Default rebuilt carb now fast idle and tight accelerator

I just rebuilt my Rochester Quadrajet on my 88 D100.
(With the air filter off) First start up was immediate, but was idling fast. I may have messed something up with reinstalling the accelerator cable/spring. The factory service manual didn't have a detailed diagram on the setup for this. Any ideas?


Alright! I adjusted the choke rod and the idle screw. Plopped a new Throttle Return Spring on there and she runs great now!

Thanks for the help fellas. Now I just have to figure out why my radiator is gulping so much antifreeze.

fast idling when you start a carbed engine is normal. maybe you didn't set the choke right when rebuilt it. if can effect how quick it kicks down into normal idle. i think there is also a screw somewhere that adjusts how high it idles when you have the choke on but i think you usually have to take the carb off to get at it.

Yeah, it could just be the choke actually working properly. After running up to operating temp, bump the throttle. Does it settle down? If not, you should start there with adjusting and troubleshooting.
