Default Superchips Tuner vs. Octane

I tried searching this b/c I know I am not the first person to ask, but I have the performance 91 octane tune in my '04 hemi. In the sunshine state we normally have a selection of 87,89, or 93. We pay substantially for the 93. Has anyone tried running 89 with an octane booster on this tune? I am just curious as I love the trucks performance but it would be nice to pay less than $4 for gas...

Thanks

That won't work. Your SC doesn't have a 93 tune? Mine does. Is it the 3865? Maybe try to use the internet update to update it and see if it has the 93 tune.

You can probably get away using the 93 tune on 89 octane for daily driving but not WOT and aggressive driving, or hauling weight.

No 93 tune for the older Hemis, just 09+. I always ran the SC 91 tune with 93 and it was awesome......

It runs great with 93 on the 91 performance tune; no complaints there...I do a fair amount towing and some off road driving so it does not sounds like 89 with this tune will do the job.

I was just curious and trying to save a couple bucks...no biggie; thanks for the input guys.

If you're towing you don't want to use the performance tunes. But if you are towing lighter loads you can use 93 octane with 91 tune and that should be ok.

I am towing a pretty good sized boat...I saw in the owners manual but assumed it was just liability b/c their 'towing' tune said no towing....what are the negatives?

There is too much ignition timing advance with the performance tunes to put heavy load on the engine. You could cause engine damage. Either need to use stock, tow (91 octane), or performance tune with higher octane than required. The higher the octane, the more resistance to detonation.

So I think I am okay with my current set up; 93oct fuel + lucas fuel treatment on the performance 91 tune? I will go back to normal if not but wanted to verify. I have not switched to 89 was just curious if it was possible, but sounds like no is the answer.

are you asking to run 89 on the 91 tune??? no, don't do that. never running LOWER octane that the tune requires. you CAN run HIGHER

Here at one gas station chain they sell 92, so i run 91 tune with 92 gas. Love it. Sometimes I fill up with 93 from a different gas station and love it more
