Default Plasti-dipping rims question

I'm hooked on Plasti-Dip and after doing my emblems I want to do my rims. I've got a 2011 Dodge Ram Sport Crew with the 20" chrome clad rims. I'd like to try doing them without removing the tire and rims from the truck. How do I cover the lug nuts as I'd like to keep them chrome, how many coats have you guys used and does the dip hold up pretty good on rims? would it be better to remove the rim rather than keeping it on the truck?
thanks for any info

Been thinking of doing mine as well, particularly for the winter months as added protection from road salt. I've seen it done with removing the wheels from the truck and keeping them on. Both instances worked out very well. The key, like anything else, prep time is extremely important for a successful outcome. Once the product is applied and cures Plasti-dip is very durable and can be washed however watch out for curb rash. The beauty thing about Plasti-dip is that if it is applied properly should damage occur to the finish it can be easily removed and reapplied. You're looking at having to apply between 4 to 7 coats to each wheel. The more coats the better. You can figure between a can to can and a half per wheel. Check out this forum or YouTube for more info.
Good luck and please post some pics when you're done.

Whats up man. I dipped mine and had it on for a few months, looked the same as the day I did it when I peeled it off. Eventually got tired of it and went back to the original chrome. As for the lug nuts, you could tape them off individually, but it would be easier for you if you can take the wheels off the truck. I kept mine on the truck and used a trash bag to cover the calipers and rotors, worked fine. Check out my old thread here: http://ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=139611

I am not sure about the lug nuts as i just plasti dipped over them, but i put on 5 coats and they have held up very well! I covered the brakes with garbage bags, and went for it.

I jacked up my truck and removed the lugs but kept the wheel on the spindle so I could spin it for good coverage. The dip has been on for a while now and is holding up very good. I've had to do a few touch ups, but nothing major.
