The only advantage i can see to the diesel is someone driving 50K plus annually. The MPG is not that significant and diesel is .50 more per gallon. The torque curve will be nice, but the HP weak compared to the hemi. If it can easily be modded with a chip or box to say 300 to 325 hp that would make it more attractive.

Isn't that exactly what forums have evolved to? But you keep plugging at 'em brother.

The gear ratio is still the most important thing for someone wanting to run larger tires.
You're right. Ratio is critical.

It's a bit more attractive where I live since diesel is usually about 25-30 cents more per gallon.

I have a 2012 ram 1500 and I'm running 37x13.5x20's. City I get 9.5mpg and highway I get 12. It blows. It'll be Ecodiesel for me for sure.

Where I live diesel is typically the same if not cheaper than regular gas. It makes it a much easier decision. I'm waiting for the diesel.

Buy the 'standard' Cummins and don't waste your time with a puny little diesel.

Not really helpful since the OP wants a 1/2 ton truck

skimming through this one.... few things i can say....
35s, hemi, stock gears even with tuner wont spin them (unless wet pavement) ((at least mine wont)

owned the truck 8 months and have 45k miles... MPG with 35s 9-10 city 13-14 highway with tuner its slightly better. lucky to get 15-16 highway city not much change.

I tow haul. and drag shit across the country everything from truckload of gravel. to 28ft race trailers.

with the amount of driving i do, i would jump to the diesel in a heartbeat if i have the chance. driving 25hours straight (detroit to denver w/ 28ft trailer) with a hemi hurts.... the day after she felt like she was going to die, no power no get up nothing... luckily she recovered on the drive to vegas. after ditching the trailer.

there should be a lot of good to come of this diesel, as chrysler owns about half and GM owns the other half ( dont quote me on %s, as i just know both have stake in the company) and Banks has already done significant testing on this engine. Hope it lives up to the RAM name.

I guess they just don't think the diesel engine will be sporty? I wish they would offer this truck also. Love the look of the sport model.
