gonna look at home door insulation first, see how that works out. should work, it's weather resistant
something around 1/2" thickness, near as wide as the "shelf" it rests on. i'll leave the bolts out a bit so i don't over-compress it, a dab of loctite blue or even a little silicone so they don't loosen off.

Grubrunner...
a propane torch works nice for polishing edges on thicker pieces, or a heat gun would prob work also...if you're worried about "cutting" into your nice straight edges anyway

Installed my S&B CAI on my 2013 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman to other day. I called S&B to inquire about the fitment issues with the 2013 models. The CSR explained that there should be no fitment issues for most 2013 model Rams with the exception for a small production run with build dates falling somewhere in 2012. Considering my build date is in 2013, I did not commit the exact dates in question to memory. I apologize for this oversight, but I am sure a S&B CSR will be happy to answer any of your questions.

AS for my install, this is definitely easier done with another person to assist. Despite being assured I would have no fitment issues, I did have to unbolt the AC line, move it ever so slightly, and re-bolt it in order to make it fit. This was not a big deal and now the CAI fits perfectly, I just thought I would add this info FYI. My one criticism with the fitment would be the plexi glass window. This seemed to be well thought out but poorly executed. The glass does not fit tight against the housing and there is a lack of attention to detail on the engraving. It is quite ugly considering the rest of the CAI is beautifully done. I will be cutting my own piece of plexi glass sans engraving to address this minor shortcoming.

In terms of performance I must say I am very happy and I have absolutely no buyers remorse. I have not quantifiable data to prove there is an increase in power but it sure feels like my throttle response has improved. Furthermore, the sound is exactly what I wanted. There is a subtle rumble when moderately accelerating and it roars to life at WOT. This thing sounds great and from what I have experienced with other vehicles, CAI will produce improved sound after an undetermined break in period. I have not transferred any pics from my phone to the computer yet, but it looks the same as every other one.
