Default Evap Leak - Code P0442 - any performance loss?

Will an evap leak do anything to engine performance? I just bought this truck and it looks like it has failed smog several times in the past due to leaking gas cap. THey even replaced it and I still get the code. So before I took it in I just cleared the code and smogged it fine. However, i wanted to know if an EVAp leak would decrease performance somehow. Sorry for my ignorance...

no as a rule we change them out all the time (gas caps) for state emiss inspection. the sys that the manufacturer uses can cause a vacuum leak but it should be so small no mpg loss only the gas tank would leak gas vaper hope this holps. ps they change these sys so check on how ur work it is not hard to understand

No performance loss. Mine gets a 441 code every few months, but I cleared it and still passed emissions testing.

I had the same trouble. Check your canister under the box I had a hose that spit and no codes for a couple months now.

I drove a Kia Sportage with that code for two years, I think I may have gotten more mileage out of it...

It's a real minor leak, could be a gas cap as said above, or even just a craked vacuum line...
