i have a 2011 ram 3500 truck I use as a welding rig I travel a lot the truck has a 373 gear I want to know if I can change to a 342 ring and pinion gear my truck has a 6 speed standard shift transmission I am looking for better fuel mileage and I don't know if the ring and pinion or a programmer and air intake with 5 inch exchast from turbo back is the best way to go any help would be helpful..

theoretically it's possible to change out the rear gears. It's not cheap, but it can be done.

thanks for the reply I need to start saving money on fuel and was looking for best way. I have put 100000 miles on the truck since new its a 6.7 cummins next question does any one know from experience if a programmer help with fuel mileage. and if so what are the best programmers to run.

If you do a quick search on programmers you'll get lots of results, probably more than you're willing to wade through. I don't have the Cummins, so keep that in mind. I've head good things about both Banks and Bully Dog when it comes to "add-ons".

I doubt that you'll see a significant gain in miles per gallon, regardless of the mods that you do. You could spend several thousand and at most see 1-2 MPG improvement (on occasion) IF you drive extremely conservatively AND all traveling conditions are perfect.

Would doing a gear swap be worth the cost in the long run? I doubt that you'll see much improvement there either, and the cost is quite high. How long would it take you to get it back in the 1-2 MPG that you MIGHT save at the pump?
