Default 4.10 vs 4.56

looking to change gear ratio soon. origionally wanted 4.10s but seems only kit i can find is in 4.56. http://www.riversidegear.com/differe...500-4x4-1.html. randys ring and pinion that i have used in past has no gearsets listed for 4th gen front carriers. 4.56 seems just a little low running 35s imo, then again i am in wv so maybe theyre not. so i guess what im asking is anyone know of any other reputable company that offers what im looking for? or can someone with 4.56s tell me what rpm they have (give or take) @ 70 mph? (and yes i tried the search) maybe just me but i cant find anything

You'll be turning 1846 rpms at 70mph in 6th gear with 35" tires with 4.10s
You'll be turning 2053 rpms at 70mph in 6th gear with 35" tires with 4.56s

Most people tend to get 4.56's but depending on your use 4.10's may be a better choice. A lot of people that drag race have found 3.92s and 4.10s to give better ET's than 4.56s due to the gear ratio spread of the transmission. If it's purely for on or off road use 4.56s will likely feel better.

I am somewhat confused ,guys are drop back to the 2011 differential to be able to do gear swap...seams strange that only 4:56 are available , not saying anything about Randys but have you contacted and gear manufactures direct?

Here is my 'real world' experience with several rigs from Jeeps to Trucks.

Take the stock configuration, let's say, for example a 3.55 gear and 33's. Drop 1 ratio per 2" of tire diameter plus 1 ratio for the increased drag from a more aggressive tire and leveling or minor lifting wind drag...so 4:10's. Consider even if you get almost exactly back to the same highway rpm you were running stock, you are still going to need more power and more rpms to maintian the same driveability.

If you had 3.92's, liked them, stepped up 2" in tire size and leveled, then 4:56 would be just about right.

For me, I am running 3.21's and think it is a step too tall with the 8 speed. 3.55's would be about right with the stock tires just under 33's. So, with a planned 6" lift and 37's, I will be looking at two steps lower for the tires and another step for the drag and I get to 4:56 as my closest ratio.

Don't fear the gear.

For 2011-13 you have to modify the rear carrier to fit the older style 9.25 4.56's.
modern performance in Orlando does this machining.
