Default 04 Hemi with upgrades, but what now? Cam?

So I have a 04 hemi quad cab 4x4. It has pacesetter headers, pacesetter catless mids, Banks monster exhaust, volant CAI and the diablo inTune. It runs real good, but the shifts leave much to be desired. I read somewhere that the diablo canned tunes dont do anything for the tranny. I had a superchips tunner on a similar truck and remember it shifted great. I am currently looking into camming it soon. Should I switch to the superchips? Are there any hardships ah3ad of me for a cam install? Nothing too serious. Looking for nice low end power and a nice lope sound.

You could look into a torque converter. Possibly a shift kit with that. The shift kit is relatively cheap (like $75 if I remember from the Edge Racing website) and is supposed to make your shifts much firmer. I'm contemplating doing both myself right now.

Doesnt a torque converter or shift kit require dropping the tranny? This is my daily driver/family car, so I want it to drive smooth, will either of those things effect that? What about mpg?

if you're gonna cam it, you'll need the Diablo for sure. I think the Comp 268 is a great proven performer in these trucks. And it's a snap to tune. Diablo doesn't have any trans shift alterations with the '04 unfortunately

Yes they require dropping the tranny but a TC is essentially the clutch in an automatic car. It will still drive smooth just have better shifts and you'll be able to spin the tires a little

You prob have the 5-45RFE transmission which means any type of trans shift kit you get wont work. Most, if not all, shift kits work by increasing line pressure. The problem with that on our transmissions is that no matter what changes are made they will reset the pressure back to factory. So you might feel firmer shifts initially, after around 500 miles of driving (I believe its 500) the trans will go back to factory shift points.

I read somewhere that there are aftermarket valve bodies available that will give firmer shifts. That might help but you have to drop the transmission for that mod. Unfortunately theres nithing available that will plug in and change shift points at this time. Anything out there will work temporarily until the transmission learns that mod and sets itself back to factory by overriding the mod.
