Default 3.55 dif with 20" wheels...

Previous owner put the 20s on my truck and it has the 3.55 from the factory at least unless he changed it (anyway to tell?). Does the 20s being larger than the 17s throw my speedometer off? And give me worse gas mileage? I get 12mpg driving slow!!!!

The wheel size has nothing to do with the speedo being off.... The tire size does. But I'm assuming he changed those as well.

Your speedo and odometer will definitely be off because of it. So will your fuel mileage indicator. You will have to account for the size change and calculate by hand in order to figure out your actual mileage. Or get a tuner/speedometer calibrator to fix it for you. Then you can hald calculate without the size correction.

Does your truck still have the window sticker inside the glove box or owners manual booklet? Normally, Ram Sports come stock with 20's. If you have 275/55-20's on those wheels, your speedo will be real close to running 265/70-17's. If you don't have a tune installed on that truck, I'd say start all over with the relearning the new driving style deal. Which is, remove your negative battery terminal first, then remove your positive terminal next and allow your truck to sit unhooked for at least 20 minutes. Then, before you re-attach your battery cables, touch them both to each other to ensure the reset process is completely done. From here, attach the positive terminal first, and then the negative terminal last. Start your truck and allow it to idle for 15 minutes without any input at all, allowing it to go through its parameters. I'm a little old school in this methodical method but it works for me. Then drive how you like to drive on a daily basis and in a weeks time, hopefully, your truck should provide you with better numbers.

Would the dealer be able to reflash the ECU for bigger/smaller dia stock tires? Other wise a tuner would be needed to re-adjust for tire diameter.

I have 275x60x20s on the front and the back. Its def off, I did the calculation for speed and at 45 im realy going 46.5. As far as odometer because it bassis the distance by tire rotation, I BELIEVE may be wrong, larger tire/wheel size would mean its actually driven further than what the milage is reading correct? As for fuel mileage, am I really only getting 12 driving slow or is the reading just off? Where can I get one of these tuners, preferably a good one? Suggestions welcome, THX GUYS!

Yes, if your speedometer is off then the odometer is off as well. So yes your truck has actually been driven further than what your odometer says. With that little increase in tire size it isn't going to be off by much though.

Your reading is off for the mileage as well. Since your tire size has changed and you're actually driving further than what your truck thinks your mileage isn't as bad as 12. It will be slightly better than that.

In order to calculate the size difference (in percentage) between the tires you have and the stock tires for your truck use a site like THIS and just enter in the two sizes. It will spit out all the information for you.

To get a tuner, contact the guys at Bully's Performance. They are a forum vendor and will give you discounted pricing since you are a member. Just mention your forum handle to them when asking for a quote. Send them an email at sales@bullysperformance.com and they'll help you out with everything you need. You can also check out their website at www.bullysperformance.com if you want to see the tuners they have. Keep in mind they are able to provide a lot more products and information than what they have listed on their website.
