Default 2002 blower motor out

Blower was running very loud and now this morning - - - NOTHING! Checked fuses under the hood and they are all good. Any other ideas before I buy parts?

Thanks to RogerRamJet posting in another thread, I found the blower motor. Smacked the motor housing a couple times and the fan kicked on . So, what does this mean? Do I need to replace the fan motor 100% or could their be something else going on?
