Default Need some help!

Greetings!
I have a 98 1500 with a 5.9L. a few months back i took it to jiffy lube....no comment on the service....and had my oil changed. didn't think much of it, oil had just been changed...so i drove it about a month until my check gauges light started coming on and oil pressure dropped when i was headed to work. pulled over and checked the oil and the dipstick was damn near dry. not only did they not put much oil in it, they used the wrong filter.

Ever since then it has driven horribly. sometimes when i'm idling my oil pressure starts to drop and i get a hissing type of noise, it occasionally dies if idled to long in any gear.

also the last couple times i've driven it (doesn't get driven to often due to having company vehicle now) it does not seem to be getting fuel well. occasionally it will bog down, not get any acceleration. if I keep my foot on the pedal it makes a kind of popping sound a few times (seems to be coming from the engine bay, not the back/exhaust) and then begins to accelerate.

I didn't know where to start so i just parked it in the driveway and refuse to drive anywhere outside of work. Now i'm thinking of selling it - but want it fixed before i sell it.

Any thoughts as to what I should try?

Thanks!
Tyler

I've got a 98 5.9 4x4. I once had the same problem, it was a timing issue regarding idle dying, and or popping (it was out of time). It's a pain but you gotta sell it. Get some second opinions though.

Your oil change place needs to address this issue. I'm assuming your oil consumption is ok, but does oil pressure rise above 40 on higher RPM on the gauge? If so you should be fine.

Default sent the first time (my pc said I did not send)

Read the first one or this one same message though (after edit statement). Read the title

Tyler, I've got a 98 5.9 4x4. It once had the same problem. Try to die at idle neutral, any gear while stopped, pop and sputter, momentary acceleration/ small spurt. It was a timing issue. It's a pain but you might want to check with a pro, but that's what it sounds like to me.

On your oil, the change place needs to address the issue. If you're not burning oil and you changed the filter you should be ok. If your oil pressure exceeds 40 halfway to the next mark under acceleration you should be ok. Good luck R...

It does run above 40 under acceleration. what could cause the timing to suddenly go out of whack? it's been running fine for a year till just recently. and i no longer use jiffy lube! I spend $4.99 more for an oil change I can trust that doesn't try to sell me crap i dont need.

Default Could be off just a tick

It could be off a hair from the last time it was dealt with. Assuming it does not miss under acceleration, oil levels fine, there's no vacuum leak and plenums ok. Try it for a test spin without AC, blow it out in a safe flat area (with your foot). See if it idles better after that. R...
