Default solid axle swap

I have a 2003 4x4 and I want to do a solid axle swap. Any suggestions as to what model year donor truck I should get. This is also the beginning stages of a he I to Cummins swap

If you are ultimately wanting to go to a Cummins than I would find a wrecked 2500 at a salvage yard that still contains a good drivetrain. Than you would have the solid axle up front that you want and a rear axle capable of handling the power, as well as the engine, transmission/transfer case to complete the job you ultimately want.

However, being a 2003...as much time/money as it will take to go to a solid axle and drop in a Cummins...why not just find a 2003 Cummins? The only reason I can think of as to why that wouldn't satisfy your goal would be if you wanted a short wheel base Cummins...but that could be achieved a lot easier by getting a 2500 reg. cab long bed, shortening the frame, and using the short bed from your 1500 (if it's a short bed).

The 2003 1500 being paid for is the biggest motivation. and not to mention it would be the only 1500 Cummins that I know of around here.

A Cummins will fit in the engine bay. The body is the same for 1500-3500 trucks
