Parkersdad:
Why would anyone buy a Challenger with a big 6.4L Hemi in it?
I would have liked a domestic Cummins V-8 engine in the Ram 1500 in lieu of the Fiat Italian V-6 diesel.

Let me spell the reason out why Nissan is upending the competition to gain authority:

"The Cummins, in final stages of development, will be rated more than 300 horsepower and roughly 550 pounds-feet of torque, Nissan said."

Default Ram 1500 diesel will get heat from Nissan Cummins

Nissan says its redesigned Titan fullsize pickup will have a Cummins diesel V-8, giving it a model to challenge Chrysler's Ram 1500 diesel.
The Cummins, in final stages of development, will be rated more than 300 horsepower and roughly 550 pounds-feet of torque, Nissan said.

BECAUSE!

VW offers a 5.0 V10 twin turbo diesel (with 350hp/550tq) in their Toureg, for no other reason than because they could, so why not Nissan with a V8 diesel!

Ford and GM offer a 6.2 in their 1/2 ton, I think Dodge could/should offer something gnarly in the 1/2 ton...

I understand exactly what you're saying. The only thing I am saying is I just sold my half to for a three-quarter ton. Once you get so much weight on the half ton it squatslike crazy. You run out of truck before you do motor.

Some of us choose the motor based on more than just towing. Unloaded I would rather have 300/550 at my disposal over 240/420.

Meh. I'm a cummins fanboy, but this is a screw up on their part IMO.

Just thank Mr. Diaz for throwing a wrench in the LD pickup war. It is a shame that as soon as Mr. D left Ram to go to Nissan's Titan, the 2013 Ram's quality control went to sh!#. If you haven't noticed, the HD Nissan work vans are gaining popularity even with the old 5.7 Endurance V8. I bet this Cummins V8 will find it's way into those 8 lug Workvans real soon. AND! This damn motor is fricken sexy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
