Default How often do y'all do oil changes?

This is my first Diesel truck (2015 2500) and I have questions about oil changes.

I just recently hit the 2,000 mile mark (mostly from a trip from South Texas up into Arkansas while towing a RV).

When do y'all recommend the FIRST oil change?

After that, how often do you do them?

.

smedlin, I'm in the same boat. I have 4,000 miles on mine. Never touched it. I know it's comming up. I have towed for well over 1,000 miles (just a car trailer 6,500 lbs, nothing heavy). I have 4 free oil changes from the dealer, but I'm doing the first one my self. Probably all of them. I don't want some kid doing an oil change that is to lazy to pour a quart of oil in the filter and then screw it up in full!

Have you looked at oil yet? I'm going to go to the dealer and get a filter, but I'm thinking of Synthetic Penzoil (not sure if they make it for diesels) Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this?

Thnaks, let me know what you end up doing. I'm thinking of just waiting till the computer tells me to do it. Althougth I did my first one on my Wrangler at 1,200 miles and put in Penzoil Platinum. She's been fine ever since.

Hi Jeeps, I'm the same way... get 4 free from the dealer.

When I bought the truck (6 weeks ago now??), the guy said the first oil change was at 8,000 miles.

to me, that just seems high. Specially for the first oil change.

My previous truck (1st Gen Tundra) and my bike, i always did my own oil change. For years, I've used only AMSOIL synthetic in both them.

Maybe I should go ahead and schedule one of those "free" oil changes now...get that first oil change done.

I change mine every 6 months. Never reach the 7500 mile mark in that time. I change in April using Rotella 15w40 and Mopar filter and in October with Rotella 5w40 and Mopar filter. Mine is a 2012.

Default oil change

I just hit 5000 and changed the oil by myself. Switched to amsoil (oil and filter) and planning to change once a year or 12000 miles.
