Default replacing the stock alpine sub only

did anyone ever tryed to replace the stock sub(not the box, just the sub itself) by a aftermarket sub without replacing the stock amp,..

did it work and did it improve the bass?

2nd question,.. i dont have my truck yet so i cant mesure,.. but is there any chance i could enlarge the hole and fit a 10inch sub in the original alpine box?

i'm not sure if it would fit but heres one that might: Rockford Fosgate P1S2-8 Punch P1 SVC 2-Ohm 8-Inch 200 Watt RMS 400 Watt Peak Subwoofer

since the stock amp is probably not strong, i woulnd chose a high wattage sub,. probably around 200w ,.. i think it could work and improve the bass

I haven't heard of anyone do what you're subscribing but a few guys have replaced the sub and added an aftermarket amp to run it. gcscott was one of them... do a quick search for him and you'll find the thread.

Enclosures make or break even the very best subwoofers...with that being said, you would be better off replacing the factory enclosure with something better built and re-using the factory subwoofer (though it's not a popular move)
The factory enclosure is pathetic.
I'd plan on replacing both, and while you're at it, buy an aftermarket amp to power the sub too. It may be an "Alpine" system, but there is much to be desired
