Exclamation Yet another exhaust question.

So on my 1996 1500 with a 5.9L, I have been doing some crazy things to my exhaust in hopes of noise and that "mean" sound.

Quick question: Would it be bad (in terms of back pressure and such) if I just got new headers and put pipes going out each side from those headers? What I mean is some shorty headers (or long tube) followed by a short pipe on both sides that go straight the left and right. I don't know if it's a bad idea or if it will just make my truck sound really dumb.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That would be way to loud.. If you're meaning straight out the sides, way to loud, if its straight piped to the back, that would be way to loud also and undriveable.. I have a Dynomax on my truck, stock exhaust and it's really throaty, I would get that and do headers and a 3" pipe to the muffler, True duals, with 2 Dynomax mufflers would sound insane, and thats what I plan to do to my 5.9l just imo.. But honestly I had a true dual straight pipe to a cherry bomb on a 5.0l H.O. Camaro, the drone on the highway was pretty annoying but in town it sounded great, and heads did turn.

true duals with stock manifolds, highflo cats and thrush glasspacks and its almost loud enough. If that helps

Default Yeah, too much

Take your pipes and extend to each rear tire (in front of the rear tire left and right). I have my 5.9 Cummins doing that in front of the right rear on a 4" pipe with a 5" SS tip. That's a ear turner.

That be a good trick on my 5.9 Magnum...........think I'll give it some thought. R...

I have eliminated the cat, ran the 2 pipe into a "Flowmaster" style muffler and a single 3 inch tail pipe...sounds good to me, without droning at cruising speed....Becareful how big you run the exhaust, you dont want to loose power by going to big...

I was going to keep it at stock 2.5" but if I throw a new muffler on, I might as well go with 3".

Ive tried both 3 and 2.5 and full 2.5 from the manifolds back sounds better to me
