Default Installing radar detector

Going to install a Passport radar detector between the rear view mirror and the sun visor tomorrow. I purchased the hard wire kit from Escort (can't stand a dangling power cord) and am thinking of wiring it into the overhead console instead of running the wires to the fuse box (the kit comes with a in line fuse). The truck has a sunroof, as well as the over head dome lights and remote garage switches so finding a power source shouldn't be a huge problem. Has anyone done this already? Any suggestion as to where to grab a "Keyed" hot?

Thanks.

That was the first thing I did to my Longhorn. I ran the wires down the pillar (2 cover tabs and 2 bolts it came right off) I connected it to a pink wire with a yellow stripe. It works great!!! There is also plenty of room at the base of the pillar to stuff the extra wire. Good luck!!

I run a V1. They have a kit that plugs into the diagnostic port so it becomes switched and also there is no need to splice or ground. Also check out "Blend Mount" they sell brackets that attatch to the mirror stem eliminating suction cups or visor cilps. Works great and also very sleak.

I have a blend mount. It is very nice and looks great. It is snugged up right below the rear view mirror.

Which Passport RD did you choose to go with?

Thanks for the replies. I have a 8500 X50, it's my second one and it works well. The Blend Mounts are nice but I like to tuck the detector up above the mirror just right below the visor. Years ago I had a cop write me a ticket and after I had signed it he said he loves to catch guys with detectors. From that day forward I have it installed up high and nearly out of sight, nearly impossible to see by oncoming traffic or by anyone walking up to my window. Ala rama, where exactly is the pink and yellow wire located?

Blend mount and mirror tap, not really noticeable.

I like that a lot.

Nice clean install with no dangling wires.

Well done.
