Default You Know You're Out of Gas When

I have a new 2013 2500 Hemi. I had to work today and was tired and noticed I only had 40 miles to empty on the way home. I said forget it I'll get gas in the morning. My wife called on the way home and said let's go to your brothers house and eat dinner with them tonight. I have a really steep driveway so I backed up and stopped about halfway up. I went in and changed clothes, came back out and guess what my truck would not start. Then the screen flashed low fuel. I Put it in neutral and rode down to the flat part. I turned the key and the truck fired up. I hauled ass to the gas station. Lesson number one whenever the gas light is on and the truck reads 40 miles to empty fill up and do not park on a steep hill, you may just get stranded.

The fuel pickup is probably at the back of the tank. I've read that manufacturers do that so the fuel will work its way to the back while driving. My Explorer was that way. When my low fuel light came on my fuel gauge would read below empty when the front was lower than the rear or 1/8 of a tank when the front was higher than the rear.
