Default Drawback of rear coil suspension

Ok, so today I learned why it's not always beneficial to have independent rear coil suspension. I went and picked up a half yard (~1200 lbs) of sand. They basically just dumped it in the back with a loader, and when she finished dumping it in, that back end of the truck squatted about as much as I've ever had a truck. It felt like I had no spring left for suspension, and I'm 100% sure it wasn't overloaded.

I've had several trucks throughout my life, and they all had leaf springs in the back. I've never had one squat near that bad; however, I've never had a truck ride as smooth as this one either. Oh well, I use it more for a DD than a hauler so all is good.

I probably won't end up doing that because I don't know how much longer I'm going to have the truck, but I do have a question about it. Do you have to manually inflate/deflate the airbags for aftermarket systems? For instance, on a really cold weather day, do you have to go add air to them like the tires?

I have to add air to my Total Load Control about once every 60 days, and then its not much. All I do is flip the switch, let the compressor run a few seconds and flip it again.
