Many of us that choose to CCW carry a specific vehicle firearm. What do you leave in your Ram as a designated truck gun?? Mine tends to vary in hunting season to more than one.
As a quick background for me: I was a sponsored IPSC shooter back in the mid 90's. The first to use the 10mm in competition.
I have been to Gunsite twice and teach a CCW course several times a year. I am a hardcore Bowhunter as well as handgun hunter so I tend to carry hunting handguns in my truck during the hunting season.
I have a large ever growing handgun collection (28 presently).
My always designated truck gun is a caliber and size of handgun I can quickly carry in the waistband if needed or stow in a coat pocket if I have to venture from my truck and wasn't already carrying a CCW. It has to be tough, reliable and preferably light weight since it has to pull double duty. I even grab this gun if I need it as backup for tracking game or generally in a situation that has me in the woods at night. My current truck handgun is a S&W Shield in 9mm with several spare magazines. Its cheap and reliable as well as very thin. It stows well in its own designated space for quick access.
The 9mm is a compromise for temporary woods duty but makes up in portability and round count. It is ideal for waistband carry when running into a store or gas station even when wearing shorts.
I leave this gun permanently in my Ram since I have many other CCW.
Over the years my truck gun has been Glock 27 or Glock 29 even a S&W 357 snub. It is not unusual for a 44mag,Sig, HK or even a Governer to also be riding along.
So to all my fellow CCW Ram truck owners.. What is your truck gun??
FYI... A classic 1955 Winchester M96 30-30 fits perfectly under the back seats of the Crew Cab. Two Velcro straps on top of the closed load floor hold it securely. Ideal for back country 4x4 excursions when you probably should have a long gun in the truck.
