Gen1dak will become famous soon enough

There is no performance advantage to be had by using later model year (newer) stock engine parts. The stock computer can handle a good cam upgrade/exhaust/intake. The '92-early '93's had the best exhaust, better computer programming. After that they started softening things a little. I know in the late 90's they posted some 245-250HP ratings, but that was not due to a change in engine hardware. It was primarily due to reconfigured exhaust (mufflers) and advertising hype. Absolutely the quickest V8 Magnum Dodge produced was the 1992 Dodge Dakota (standard cab) with 5.2 Magnum. The later Dakota Magnum RT's with 5.9's weren't as quick (heavier, but allegedly more powerful 5.9's). The '92 would run high 14 second 1/4 mile right off the showroom floor. Both the 5.2 and 5.9 were less aggressive from '93 on. If you can find a cheap 5.2 Magnum cam (.432" lift), it will be an improvement over your 5.9's cam (.410" lift), but going to that much trouble, you'd be better suited to just bite the bullet and save up for a much better aftermarket cam.
