Default new ram owner- is 21MPG normal?

I've read lots of post about people getting 21 mpg with tunes, exhaust, and CAI ... however, my truck is a stock 5.7 big horn crew cab.. it easily maintained a 21 mpg at 75 on a recent trip.. with a 20.5 avg for the trip city and all.. I was shocked, my last f150 barely got 15 on the interstate.. avg 11 or so and my other f150 close to 17...with 13 avg and I see some people here with similar numbers as a normal with their hemis... im just curious as to what you guys are getting with your trucks and is it stock.. can these trucks make better mpg? if I do a cai and exhaust am I going to be putting the hybrids to shame?! ( kidding-- would be nice though! )

Pretty normal for me, but not at that speed. Between 45-55 I get 23-24, 55-65 I get 21-22, 65-75 I end up with 17-19 depending on wind direction and speed. Head winds suck.

But mostly, i don't pay attn to the MPG gauge. I am towing half the time and the other half, well...I just dont care cause I enjoy my Ram so much.

For a 2 wheel drive that seems about normal. If you are going by the Evic numbers you will find that that is a little high compared to hand calculating.

I found my Evic to be about .6 miles higher than hand calculation. That being said, straight Freeway driving (not LA freeways), with ideal conditions, no wind, mostly flat, 2 people and about 500 pounds in the bed I can get 20.1 mpg at about 72mph and 21mpg at 63 mph. This is with mild acceleration and keeping it in Fuel Saver (Eco mode) as much as possible. I don't use cruise control when doing this, I find it gets less if I use it. Mix is about 17-18 mpg and mostly city driving 12-14. To many traffic lights and to much idle time waiting for them to change.

Everyones driving habits are different and this makes a big difference in mpg claims.

My truck is a CC, 4x4, 3.55 rear, Hemi, 2009.

That seems above average, for my 4.7l I am lucky to get 20mpg. But then again mine is a 4x4. also the combination of a tuner, exhaust and drop in cold air intake (with box tube and filter) would increase it by ~1-2 mpg.

The trick is learning how to keep mds engaged. It's easy to hear in my 05 hemi RT Magnum with Borla exhaust. The exhaust goes from a low rumble to a almost silent whoosh when it hits 4 cyl mode. I wish my 05 Ram had it, but driving my friends 06 4x4QC Laramie, you have to really pay attention to hear it kick in. On a long trip, never exceeding 65 mph, his Laramie averaged almost 23 mpg. My non mds 05 probably would have gotten 18-19 babying like that without mds. So yes, you can get great mileage with a hemi, however, you will be bored as hell doing it.

That's great mileage!! I managed ~20 going on a 200 mi round trip to the city and back but man that was boring!!

But I'm one of the people that bitch about the hemi's mileage though, but every time you see my truck you hear me first. Haha.

Seems a little above average for that speed.

I've been getting only around 14-15mpg at any speed. I use to get pretty good mileage. Truck has 80k on it. Getting ready for a long trip and would love to have better mileage. Any advise? Things to change at that mileage?
Really appreciate it. Thanks,
Doug
