Default 2014 Sport Cylinder Deactivation Concern

I'm the proud new owner of a 2014 Ram 1500 Sport Crew Cab. I traded in my 2011 Big Horn so I'm familiar with the cylinder deactivation. My concern however is I'm not sure it's actually working in the new truck. In my Big Horn the Eco light came on and I could feel the change when it dropped to 4 cylinders. No light comes on in my new Sport and I don't feel any difference when I let off the gas at highway speeds. Not to mention my gas mileage seems worse than my 5 speed Big Horn, 14.9 mpg after 400 miles. Does anyone know if the new Sports have an Eco light that is supposed to come on or any other way I can be certain it is engaging?

By the way I'm a newbie to the site who's been a follower for some time. I appreciate the dialogue and all the advice I've learned along the way. Thank for allowing me to join!

Welcome!

Go into your setup and turn the Eco light on if you want it to display.

You'll have to forgive my ignorance but I had tried to locate it but couldn't find it. Didn't see anything in the manual either. If you could be a little more specific where I look in the "set up" it would really be appreciated.

Good to know that there is a light that displays when it is in cylinder deactivation mode. I was actually wondering this but figured I would just ask when my finally came in. So you have to manually go into the setup menu and turn this function on?

Eco light doesn't necessarily mean you have cylinder deactivation, it just means you are driving in a fuel saving manner. If you aren't in Eco though you won't have cylinder deactivation though. There is a member on here who wired in an led to let him know when it did happen.

I actually had to use the setup options in the radio to turn on the Eco lights.

Are you sure there is no deactivation of the cylinders when the Eco light is off? Because on the highway at 120km/h the light is off, but i sure hope I'm running on 4 cylinders if I'm cruising at that speed! I thought it was related more to the MPG you're getting

^^^^ Pretty sure, this thread explains it. http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread....&highlight=MDS

If ECO is NOT lit MDS is NOT active.
