Default Best tire size?

ok i'm getting ready to get new tires. but am getting told 400 things from 400 people. I have 275 60 r20 now. with a daystar leveling kit. going to be using stock rims. I want to go as big as I can using this setup. I have been told these tires are a 33 x11.4. the dealership told me to go with a 285/70 or 285/75. guy at goodyear said 275/65 or 305/60 or 35x12.5.
went and seen a 285 70 and it looked similar to the size I have. and the 35 x12.5 looked like it would rub. also heard not to go over a 12 inch tire on stock rim. hoping somebody can help me. or point me in right direction. please and thank you.

try looking into a 305/55/20 same height but wider.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

here is a tire size calculator. pretty accurate

I depends which 20" wheel you have, and whether you have a 2WD or 4WD

Sport/Laramie Chrome Clad's are 20"x 9"

Painted Aluminum 20's are 20" x 8"

Not all tires labelled as a "305" are the same width, you have to go to each manufactures website
to see how wide the tire actually is when mounted on a suggested rim size.

For example:
a 305/50R20 Terra Grappler on a 9" wheel is 12.2" x 32.2"
I have those on my 10' RCSB 4x4 (20"x9" Clad Sport Wheel +19.05 offset)

Just one size up, a 305/55R20 is 12.4" wide x 33.19" tall and rubs
If you go to that same size in an LT (10ply) it's 12.6" wide x 33.07" tall (also rubs)

all three list rim width of 8.5 minimum (9.5 recommended)

My 305/50R20 clears the upper ball joint on the control arm by less than 1/4" so it works for my 4x4
(even though its lowered 2/3)

I have heard 2WD Rams are getting rub issues at full turn lock trying to run that same tire on the same wheel

I would say stay away from any tire over 12.2" wide
(based on a stock 20" chrome clad wheel)

I've heard many have successfully mounted 295/60R20 Trail Grappler on Painted 20's (8" wheel)
with a level kit up front, no issues

The tire is 12.13" wide x 34.45" tall on a min rim width of 8", 8.5" recommended

its the chrome rims. was told they was 20x9 and the truck is 4wd.im going to go with a goodyear duratrec or a goodyear mtr with Kevlar. I was told told the tires I have now are 33x10.8 if that's true I would like to go about 11.5 to 12 inches wide and as tall as I can.

For an MT/R with Kevlar, you need to go up to an LT series

Keep in mind, that's a HD tire (E load rated) weighs 63 pounds without rim
(stock 275/60R20's are about 42lbs)

LT285/65R20 is 11.5" wide x 34.8" tall would be perfect size for your setup (4x4 with level kit)

the only other option for a 20" wheel is a 33"x12.5" (too wide at 12.5", and shorter 32.8")
or a 35"x12.5" (12.5" wide x 34.8") the width would likely be a rub issue on stock wheels

For a Dura Trac your options are

LT275/65R20 ( 11" x 34.1" )
LT285/60R20 ( 11.5" x 33.5")
LT305/55R20 (12.4" x 33.2") will likely rub
LT325/60R20 (13" x 35.4") will definitely rub

I know what you mean by manufactures, i run the coopers 305/55/20 on my 2011 sport crew 4X4. 20X9 wheels, with no issues what so ever, you do bring up a good point. thats why i added a tire size calculator most tires are with in a few mm and the calculator is a good starting point so he can compare tire sizes side by side....

the dealership told me to go with 285/75/20. or 285 70 20. what size would the tires be. I went to a size comparison site and it says the 285 75 is like a 36.8 height.

35.71" tall on those 285/70-20's and you are correct in the 285/75-20 at 36.83" tall. Both are 11.2" wide.

I am running 296/65/20 trail grapplers which according to the nitto site are 35.47 x 12.13. I have no issues, but am running 1/4 inch spacers. not sure if they would rub the control arm or not without spacers. I'd go with the 285/70/20 if you want the tallest tire possible, pretty sure you'd clear them and since they're skinny you wouldn't need any wheel spacers.
