Starts up fine when I get inside. Get home, step out, give it 30 seconds or so, and while standing right next to the truck, it starts up fine when I hit remote.

I was hitting remote twice as directed each and every time.

Any ideas what is up with this? I was hoping I could pop the window in the winter and start my truck from the office before heading out, but that doesn't look good now. Makes it moot if I have to walk close to the truck before it will work. Hope the heated seats warm up in a hurry--if they don't that wasn't worth the money either! At least I am not that far from the truck at home, hopefully it will work there without having to walking within 20 yard of it.

It does take a certain timimg on the twice-press to get it to work, if I dont hear anything on the 2nd press the third press usually does it, Just have to be careful because if the remote start sequence begins another press cancels it. I think if you start it and cancel it twice it wont let you remote start ir any more, you have to start it regularly to reset it.

I start it regularly from 800-1000'' away line of sight so it has decent range. But like anything else these days it has many safety features that can stop it from working.

What KJ48 said. Plus on my 2010 the printed contacts on my FOB's circuit board got so worn it gave me range issues. But if your getting one beep of the horn, its most likely one of the conditions not being met. (see pic below)

I had some trouble with the remote start and the remote lowering (air suspension). This was when the vehicle was brand new and I remember reading that certain conditions had to be met for these functions to work. One of the conditions was a fully charged battery. Since many batteries are low due to sitting on dealer lots and on transporters, I tried hooking up to my Ctek charger overnight and since then no more electronic gremlins. I haven't tried any distance tests, but it will start from approx. 100' or so without a problem.

I haven't heard great things about the factory remote start and am wondering if I should look for an aftermarket system for my new truck (when I actually buy one). It gets damn cold where I am making a reliable remote start and important feature.

Can someone tell me how the U-connect feature works from a smartphone? I understand the principle but do you need some sort of subscription to make it work and is that subscription free for the first year on new trucks? Also i am an android guy not an iphone guy and I don't see any android apps for this.
The Uconnect app works, takes a while sometimes (2-3 minutes), but it does confirm when it starts or doors locked/unlocked. I set my alarm off fooling around with the door locks and it e-mailed me my alarm was going off too.

Unfortunately its part of the 1 year free subscription, I think the non-NAV radios only come with 6 months free. I wouldnt pay extra for it, I have no problem with the remote start, plenty of range for me. Its not like any other truck comes with a better remote start, plus I really like the keyless ignition.

None of the conditions noted where present in my truck when it would not start. I didn't note--and not sure how I could since I wasn't in the truck when trying to start it with the remote--whether an EVIC message came up. I did not see one when I got in the truck to start it by turning the key, but will check if it happens again. I did check to see if the sensors in the door were bad on one side versus the other--that wasn't it either.

Well I think I can say this problem is related to the shutdown error I mentioned earlier now.

And you can add this issue to the ones that will make your remote start not work.

Tried it a couple of times with repeatable results.

Both times I was able to start the truck remotely just fine. I then hopped into the truck, inserted the key, drove a bit, then stopped, and shut the truck off while in the drive mode of an 8-speed. The truck recognizes this error--a message comes up on EVIC that it has moved the tranny to park. At that point you can't even get the key out--have to move it to off, then back on to the accessory level again--then to off--before it will come out.

IMmediately after that occurs and you exist the vehicle with door shut--with the truck off and standing right outside the truck--it will beep when you hit the remote start but it WILL NOT start. Yet when you hop in and insert the key it starts fine.

So I'm not sure anything was wrong after all, but will keep an eye on it.
