only reason I can think of is my oem is "one piece" where as this is bolted on and most likely rated less due to the hardware used.

Class 4 is for large loads
Class 3 is for smaller loads

the wording that Chrysler uses makes it seem like they are the same
Class 4 Hitch Receiver actually bolts to the trucks frame rails

this is my Class 4 on my 1500 Ram











notice that the whole thing is welded together, no bolts except where it bolts to the frame rails & the smaller bolts that attach to the body & bed frame

I dont know, but I think the factory class IV is rated 5000/500 without a weight distributing hitch, same 12000/1200 with so who knows. The factory hitch MAY be rated 6000/600 without the WD hitch though, I'll have to look on the hitch to see if its marked.

Yea, the one piece is the same looking part but just welded on. The main difference I have seen between class III and class IV is the extra reinforcement around where the ball mount slides in and a thicker box so the pin doesnt oval out the hole.
