Default Battery Terminal Corrosion

A few months back I noticed that my negative battery terminal had some corrosion on it- I cleaned it with some terminal cleaner and then sprayed the terminals with a battery treatment to prevent corrosion. However, I've noticed recently that the corrosion is coming back (a few weeks later). It's not as bad as it had been, but it's there- anybody else have this problem? I'm wondering if it's a battery issue, or more so the terminals on the cables?

A leaking terminal is what is causing the corrosion. You can either keep cleaning it or get a new battery.

Was the corrosion on the actual post of the battery's terminal or was it more concentrated around the connector that slides over the post?

More so on the connector, and it looked like just some residual on the actual battery post

i always hit my terminals with Castle Muscle Grease...it works great, but ive never really considered that an excess of corrosion cold be a bad battery...thanks RogerRamJet.

It's not necessarily a "bad" battery, but it is a leaking battery.

i always clean up the posts and connectors than spray them with white lithium grease and usually they are good for a few months. the only batteries i have ever not had corrosion on were the gm side post type. even on my kenworth all the battery terminals always get corrosion. and that truck has 4 batteries.

It may sound weird, but the few times I've had battery corrosion, putting some vaseline on the post creates a barrier between the two different metals.

Thanks for the info so far. I guess my next question is, can the wire connector be replaced if the corrosion gets too bad? I've dabbled with some electrical accessories, but have never dealt with the bigger gauge electrical work on vehicles.

Yes it can, but you may want to check to see if any part of the wire is also affected, in which case you will want to replace the wire and connector.
