Default Should I do it???

Hi all I just wanted to get some opinions of ram owners. The exact truck I want is available but the only thing it's lacking is the 8sp. The dealer said they would make a great deal but I'm not sure that I want to "settle". I know I can order am exact 14 the way I want it but won't nearly be saving as much. So do you think it's worth getting a sick deal on the 13 or probably paying thousands more on a 14? Thanks in advance I am so torn

Tell them you'll take the 13 but you want extended warranty and oil changes and if they say no go to another dealer

Guess it comes down to how much the savings mean to you. I regret not having the 8 speed. I don't even think the 65RFE should be advertised as a 6 speed since it only uses 5 gears when you just put it in D (like probably 99% of owners do). And no active grill shutters without the 8 speed if that's important to you.

Having said that, though, let me also add that I've had no problems with my transmission and perhaps there is something to be said for lower tech and less equipment to break (not an issue when you are under warranty, though)

Most will say otherwise but I'm perfectly happy with the 6 speed/3.92 in this '13. Since I only buy off the lot irs always tricky finding exactly what I want, for me it was between an 8 speed two tone Laramie with few options (no remote start) and a 6 speed monotone Laramie with the auto wipers/high beams, pushbutton start and remote start.

I went with the 6 speed, really had no complaints from the trans from my old '10 or '12 Laramies but I would have liked to try the 8 speed.

Its your money, if you really want the 8 speed then get it. In the big picture for me the 8 speed was way down on the list of must haves, may be different for you.

I'm like KJ48, I'm perfectly happy with my 6 spd and 3.92's. In fact I factory ordered my 13 with them I have zero regrets with my choice.

After driving an 8 speed and a 6 speed back to back there is no way I'd ever be happy with the 6 speed. Others love it. I would say take two trucks with the same rear end one with the 6 one with the 8 drive one right after another and decide what works for you.

Since the 8 speed is something you want to begin with and you already feel like you would have to settle by getting the 6 it doesn't matter how many people tell you good things about the 6 speed you will regret not getting the 8.

I personally think the 8 speed should be the only choice. I would give it more time.

Almost all of the higher level trim 2014 Ram's that I have seen come with the 8 speed.

Others have made some valid points here, worthy of consideration and it would seem there is no reason the 6-speed cannot or won't serve you well. But, this one line in your query "but I'm not sure that I want to "settle" would seem to answer your own question. It sounds to me you have your heart and/or mind set on an 8-speed and if that is truly the case, you will never be happy unless you get it.

I've driven them both and its not a HUGE difefrence, really depends on the rear end ratios, but the hemi has plenty of displacement and torque to pull along a 1/2 ton pickup with a reasonable rear end ratio just fine with a 5-6 speed trans. Six cylinder is another story.

But I do agree they should have just dropped the 6 speed when the 8 speed was available. It really muddies up the water keeping the 6 speed, cant really see a valid reason to keep it on as standard and the 8 speed as an option..

If your already worried you'll be settling, I would wait and get the 14. If not you'll be hating your new truck as soon as you get it.

Have you driven both?
