Default This seems odd....

I tried to plug my Iphone inyo my AC outlet and it did nothing. So, I thought I'd look under the dash to see if I could check the fuse box for a blown fuse...... well, I stopped my search when I found all of these loose wires

I just bought this used 2010 last week from a reputable dealer, and it allegedly passed a comprehensive inspection. Do all these loose wires seem right? What am I missing?

I haven't got my truck right now to compare. But I would attach anything that fits together and see what happens. If you're not sure, you can take it back to your dealer and show them and get them to sort it.

Man, I'd haul the thing to the crusher right now! I'm actually joking. I can't say for sure on your truck, but what you see is pretty common. For example the black thing in the upper left of your photo is for the OBD, which normally wouldn't have anything plugged in. Maybe another plug in is for a heated steering wheel, which you don't have etc. They usually put in a wiring harness for every available option and if you don't have them, there is a wire harness hanging where it would plug in.

NightStalker
may i suggest that you finish filling in the USER CP / EDIT YOUR DETAILS / VEHICLE section, it makes it easier for other members to know what year/model/etc.
that you are driving & asking questions about

as for your Apple ( & some others ) device
look in your upper glove compartment, the bulkhead closest to the radio
i believe that you will see a MINI USB port that you can connect your device into

by the way, which radio do you have
the 3 letters that identify the radio, can be seen on the face of the radio, near the auxiliary port, lower right corner
they could be:
RHR, RER, RHB, RBZ, REN, RES with the phone button hard key, or RES w/o the phone button hard key

Please let us know what you find

GTYankee: Sir, I sent you my VIN numbers late last week via email. If they did not make it to you, please let me know and I will resend. I still do not know with any real certainty which model I truly have.

It does not appear that I have the USB in the glove box (see pic below):

It looks like I have the "RES" model radio.

What is odd to me, is that this radio has all the "buttons for the hands-free (UConnect) set-up, but when I tried to synch my Iphone it showed me this message (pic below):

If I wanted to get the Uconnect system/capability for my Ram, do I need to replace the radio? If so- which I am certainly not opposed to- which radio should I pick-up, and will it be an easy swap?

Thanks in advance for your time and assistance with these issues..... you guys are a TREMENDOUS help!!

Dodge Man:

Good point. I contacted the dealer and they are going to take a look at it Thursday morning.

They are a GMC/Buick Dealer, so if the head scratching becomes unbearable I'll share your information with them....... after they sweat it out for a bit.

Thanks again for the assist.

You said you were trying to plug into the AC outlet. So you mean to charge the phone .....right? To turn on the AC outlet you have to hit the button on the dash that looks like (ll).

Otherwise if your trying to hear music out of your iphone you need a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male headphone jack and plug that from your iphone to the AUX input on your radio.

LeftCoast:

Roger, I was only trying to charge my Iphone (not listen to Pandora, etc...). I plugged in the phone and hit the power button and didn't get anything.

What I found out this morning is that I might have a bad Apple charging "block", and not a problem with my external power source in my Ram. I'm headed out for a short run and when I return, I'll get to the bottom of this!!!

Thanks for the help.

I am not an expert, but I have the same radio (RES) in my 2012; however,
I do have the voice command and UConnect features.

My understanding is that the UConnect is a separate module which plugs into the rear of the radio, so you will probably just have to buy the module and plug it in.
You may have to go to a Dodge dealer to have vehicle computer flashed to let it know you now have the UConnect module to activate the features, but I am not sure on that.

Another piece of good news, I think the USB port for the glovebox is also part of the UConnect module.
or it may already be tucked up in the wiring and simply not installed.

I am a little confused why you emailed your VIN to the website.
As mentioned by GTyankee, I simply filled out my vehicle information in the User CP when I registered.

JohnnyDollar:

Thanks for the advice. I think I am gonna dig around the RamForumz to find out how difficult it is to just do a radio swap. I don't need the navigation, but I would like to have the hands free, and bluetooth capability.

I sent my VIN to GTYankee because he offered to help me decode my truck right after I bought it. I was able to send the VIN and all of my purchase info to Dodge to get the print-out of my build sheet.

I am still unsure which model I have. I think it is a Ram 1500 SLT Quad-Cab Sport.... but I don't know.
