Default driver side window panel schematic

hey guys, I just got back from a duty station to see my beautiful ram again! Spent all day today tuning her up, did plugs, brake, PCV, ect.

To the problem, my driver side window went out and i believe there is a short somewhere as whenever i use the switch the battery gauge surges. im a DIY kinda guy but i cant get my hands on a wiring diagram for the driver side panel that has all the switches. i want to test the actual switch itself. Sorry if this was confusing i dont really know the names of the parts this is a new fix to me lol.

Thanks for the help guys!

First off, welcome back and thank you for your service!

Now, to the problem. I think your window motor is bad. I say this because you said you can see the battery gauge surge when you use the switch. That tells me that the motor is drawing a bunch of amps trying to work. I'd start with the motor first. Swap the one from the passenger side to the driver side and see what happens. If I'm wrong, we'll take it to the next level. Keep us posted on the progress.

Thank you sir! Unfortunately that was an issue i was worried about. Last time i had a window motor go out it was very loud and apparent in an old chevy so i figured against that but it makes sense. I havnt taken the door panel off yet, is the motor in a general location?

oh yeah, the rear passenger spark plug is so much easier to replace if you replace the PCV valve at the same time...

As soon as you pull the panels off, which are super easy btw, you'll see the motors toward the bottom of the door.

this maybe the online Owners Manual for your Dodge Ram
they didn't make them for the 2003 & earlier vehicles
but, the 2004 should be plenty close to what you have

http://www.ramtrucks.com/en/owners/manuals/

sorry, i know that there are free wiring diagrams, but i can't seem to find the free ones right now

Thank you so much guys. Im going to pull off the door panels tommorow and test the motors. I figure the probability of the motor going bad as opposed to say the switch was my first idea is much greater.
