The worst color for a vehicle, you could keep Liz Hurley happier. Swirl scratches, bug etching, look at it wrong and it's scratched, etc........ But it looks beautiful 5 minutes after a good wash.

Fifth black truck and I also have a 2013 SRT Challenger...pitch black, even traded the 2012 in black for another black one...simply the best color. They are a labor of love, but nothing looks better. I have an orbital buffer, 3M polish series (1-3), and a wonderful glaze/sealer called Black Light from the Chemical Guys. I use Ice for those times I'm in a hurry. I love it - and it's worth it.

If she's buying then I guess I could suck it up and give it a go.

Default Black trucks

I have had two black trucks, never again I'm now on my second white one, Easiest color to keep clean, I have also had several car that where white. Silver would be my nest choice. I live on a dirt road.

I've had black cars/trucks consistently over the last 20 years. I picked up my new RAM in early July and here's what I did...

I wanted to get the paint protection from the dealer, but for the $700 they were charging I decided to do some research. I did that and found Opti-coat 2.0.

I ordered it and didn't aggressively wash my truck as I didn't want to cause swirls, scratches, etc. Once it arrived and after looking at all the youtube videos I could find on applying it properly, I spent a Saturday prepping and applying it. This is a product that comes in a syringe and, properly applied will replace waxing for years. The only downside is you best not have any imperfections in your paint or you'll seal them in.

Here's the cool part... Dirt, etc. will rinse right off without washing. I used it on my headlamps and grill, etc. and bugs literally wipe right off. Stuff is amazing and since I have to park outside my garage cuz that's where my toys are, it's a great UV protector as well.

Scratches, even those that irritate you like the ones that always form under the handles don't appear. This stuff is a ceramic something that is truly amazing. I don't often endorse products, but this stuff was truly impressive.

2 months later and at least 8 brush car washes and I can report there are zero micro scratches anywhere from the brushes.

I have a silver Chrysler 300C and my black Ram. While it's true the black shows dirt more easily than any other color, as pointed out - no other color compares to a black Ram with silver wheels & trim, imo. I suggest you go for what you like best - & don't worry about whether the truck will show dirt. Just become good friends with your neighborhood car wash if that's your biggest concern! Your truck will eventually need washing and care, regardless of the color.

I use the black light as well and I top it with the chemical guys V7 spray I have the poorboys version which is Black Hole and it also works great for black. I top everything with Collinite 845 as a LSP, dirt and dust hardly cling to my black paint.

Black vehicles give your significant other a clear understanding of why you spend so much time detailing. The difference between clean and dirty is drastic.
