Read in a couple different threads sometime ago it wasn't good to use 2nd prime under full load so I opted not to. Though next time I'm gonna use tow/haul mode just for curiosity's sake and also try lining up outside of the sticky grooves and see if she'll still hook. Got a straight-through muff on now that should help a radon the top end as well.

If you nail it at 65mph you are using 2n prime/3rd gear.

So you are saying 2nd prime/3rd gear is completely safe and not a "weak link" in the tranny under full load, as another member put it? I know we're getting off topic from original post but I'd like to know. If it is safe, I'm assuming correct use on the strip would be to just set manual gear limiter to "3" and increase it once it has already shifted to 3rd so that the tranny can up shift once I let off. Also...doesn't tow mode use 3rd? If so, why not just do that instead of the manual route? As you can tell I'm still learning my truck so thanks for any accurate clarification it is appreciated.

That's the assurance I needed to hear. Appreciate it. You just set it to "3" before the run? Thanks.

Yes, but you may have to shift to 4th before the end of the track depending on what gears and tires you have. Tow haul will bypass 3rd on an upshift but kickdown to it on a full throttle down shift at highway speeds (65)mph. As best as I can tell Tow/Haul locks out 6th and MDS and gives part throttle down shifts more easily. It also delays the part throtle upshifts.

I just looked back and with 3.92's and the stock 20's you might just make it in 3rd, you should at least shift to 4th after going through the traps.

Yeah I know 3rd gear ratio is barely taller than 2nd but 2nd doesn't even come till almost 1000ft mark so I should be good. I plan on just hitting the up arrow on the gear selector all the way to 6 after it goes into 3rd. Thx for the input.

That's about where I'm coming out of 2nd with my 3.92s and stock tires, a little before 1000ft mark. I think 2p should get me to the trap. How much rpm drop going into 2p? I know 2 and 2p ratios are really close so I was figuring only a few hundred.
