Default H11 headlight conversion

I was looking for new bulbs for my lowbeams and stumbled onto this conversion
http://www.expeditionportal.com/foru...eadlight-bulbs

was wondering if anyone has done this ... I already replaced my fog bulbs with 9005's with no problems after 2 years of use

I have silverstar ultras now but one finally burnt out after 2 years so im looking to go brighter but dont want HIDs

i had it done before i did my hids, decent upgrade not that hard...but hid is the way to go, its probably cheaper than a set of silverstars as well.

Same here, just did this upgrade, a small modification for some decent gains, your lows will be cosiderably brighter, while your at it, look into replacing your highs, I just swapped those out (9005) 's for Phillips 9011 HIR's 65 watts, they put out 2300 lumen each. You can purchase these from Candlepower. I just did all 4 bulbs, they were all silverstar ultras, don't be fooled by the "whiter looking" beam from ultras, although these new bulbs look a tinge more yellow, they ARE brighter and further reaching, I left the 9006 ultras in my fogs for now. The 9011 bulb is a minor modification also, but very easy, you won't be disappointed!

All these names are confusing me...
Are 9005 the same as H11, therefore allowing 9011 to replace all four bulbs?

I keep referring back to the Lighting thread:

4th Gen HIDs
Quad lights
High beams - 9005/HB3
Low beams - H11

Fog lights
(regardless of headlights)
H10/9145/9140

But, Otterdriver, it seems to me that you are saying that you replaced highs and lows with the 9011s?

Not quite, the base of the Phillips 9011 HIR 65 watt bulb is virtually identical to the base of the 9005 (stock) highbeam for our trucks, there is only one small modification you have to make to the Phillips bulb, grinding off a small part of one of the plastic tabs to make it fit in the 9005 socket, the second upgrade is for the low beam , you replace the H11 (stock) bulb for an H9, any brand of H9 will work, same modification for this bulb, grind off a small portion of the plastic tab inside the plug socket, these bulbs are actually High beam bulbs rated at 65 watts also, they also don't have a cap on the bulb like the stock H11 bulb, but since there is a glare shield built into the stock housing they work very well with no light scatter, they are just intensely brighter, nice cheap mod, took me inside of an hour to do all 4 bulbs which were sylvania silverstar ultras. Good luck

THank you for the clarification... I think instead of trying to get new projector HID lights, I'll do this mod instead.

Otterdriver - Thank you for this information. Rep'd.

I tried some Philips Crystal Vision - It made it worse not better. Thankfully I can return those.

I ordered both a H9 and 9011 bulbs. I am hoping this does the trick. I was originally looking at HID, but I have seen people with the same year truck, same kit, and different results. I don't want to pay that amount of money with questionable results. I also saw the new LED headlights, but they are very new and very expensive too.
