Replication of another makers hot design, concept or feature is a time honored doctrine among automotive manufacturers. It saves R&D costs, ensures a successful feature or option, and enables rapid introduction into their product line.
I drove Chevy Avalanches for about 10 years and probably still would be if Chevy had not phased them out this year. Loved the truck box concept they had and it was a primary purchasing reason for the Ram. So yes, Chevy has had this truck box concept for many years. I hope they or someone else picks up the fold down rear cab wall design and factory designed toneau cover someday - both worked excellent on the avalanche.
I did a review on the holster system Mopar sells and the plastic dividers for the Rambox in another thread, here is an update....
Holster system - works as advertized BUT due to the add of the electronic locking module, there is not enough room for a second scoped long gun in the outer position. The pic above is from a 2012 or earlier Ram version that had the manual lock mechanism. The electronic lock mechanism is much larger and takes space that the scope would normally.
Partition system - works and looks nice but I am finding the horizontal plates that cover the front and back deep wells are bowing/warping due to a combination of heat and weight of items stacked on them. I am not real happy about this, so it's hard to recommend at the price Mopar wants for them. The vertical partitions work perfectly. I am thinking about taking my plastic horizontal plates [which are all 4 custom sized] and tracing them out onto heavier plywood to cut out stiffer plates....
