Default My RAM taught me something new!

So, I bought my RAM last October and it got pretty chilly afterward so I quickly learned how my heated seat and steering wheel controls worked. I also learned that using remote start would engage both the driver seat and the steering wheel if the truck believed it was less than 40F outside. Nice!

Now, on the flip side of that. It has been getting more and more hot here in the Utah desert and my husband suggested that I crank the AC to max before parking and turning her off and heading in to go grocery shopping, etc. And then remote starting and that should help it cool off a bit after sitting awhile. I tried this and it seems to work rather well so this has been my routine for about a month.

Cut to yesterday. Something changed! I completed my routine as normal and about half way home I realized that my cooled seat feature was on. Interesting. I noted that the outside temp was above 90F (which most likely meant the cab temp was more). So I guess my RAM kicks the cooled seat on similarly to kicking the heated feature on in the winter. VERY COOL!

Not sure if anyone else knew this, but I was very pleased to learn (and feel) this! Just thought I'd share my little "A-HA!" moment with everyone.

So your spoiled, heated and cooled seats. I have the heated seats after the fact, installed them myself. However I don't have the cooling feature which would have been nice this summer. Neat that you found something new.

Spoiled? Nah. I wouldn't say that, just figured I better get all the bells and whistles I could possibly need or want since I do not think I'll ever get to buy another brand new vehicle. Heck! It took me 33 years to get this one, lol!

But yes, the cooled feature is a must have if you live in a climate such as mine! If I still lived in the Sierra Nevada of Cali, not so much.. but here in the desert.. hell yes! :P

Nice catch. I can't that I"m surprised that it does this, as the trucks are pretty smart.

I agree that the cooled seats are a "must have"... especially with black leather LOL

The other thing you'll notice in the heat is that while it is on remote start the AC will automatically be full power (at least when on auto) and the cooled seats will be both seat and lower back. Once you put the key in it will turn off the lower back and leave just the butt part on - that part frustrates me.

Hmm, you are making me think on a Sunday lol. Thanks for your reply.. I will pay more attention to this next time I get in after using remote start since I didn't notice anything out of the norm until halfway home.

As for the seat settings, I do believe my seats only have the bottom cooling, not the back too. But I will check this again. And thanks for the mention of leaving it on Auto! I will be trying that next time too!

with my Ancient '09 Ram QC

i have learned to set my climate controls just before shutting the Ram off for the day.
Like right now the weather has been strange, 70 degrees in the morning, 100+ in the afternoon, but sometimes it is 40 in the morning & 80 in the afternoon.
So i preset my controls to Heat before i shut off my Ram for the day & in the morning i remote start it just before i start putting my shoes on.
I used to come out to the A/C being on & have to put up with it for the first couple of miles after resetting it

If you like the concept and are into mods, you may look into adding an aftermarket heated seat function to your truck. It has been done and, as I have read, seems to be straight forward. But I would suppose it depends from truck to truck.

Picking up these little things is why it pays to thoroughly read the owner's manual. It's the best Bible for our trucks..... and vehicles in general.

Yeah, good catch.
