Default O/D button doesnt light up. Working?

I cant really tell if the O/D is working on my 1997 dodge 1500 360 4x4, when i press the button it doesn't seem to do anything.

If you push the button look on the dash in the center. It should light up and say OD OFF. R...

There is no light that turns on anywhere on the dash, could be a broken wire? or ?

Go on the highway at about 60-70 MPH, press the button and see if it downshifts, if it does it's working.

my button used to light up orange when i pushed it and then one day it quit. but never had light come on the dash. The only way to tell is about 60mph. when you turn your key off it will reset the button for you incase you forget.

So did my 98, it went out, but it is out. It's my old farm truck that sees no more than 6 miles a month on the road (rest of the time on the farm). If at 60 you see the rpm shift you still should have it, your light burned out. My 99 diesel still works, the 97 360 magnum still works. Note though, your 96 is not electronic transmission like 97 and newer..............that is why your 96 works and my 98 doesn't (97 and above electronic tranny). R...
