Default Cost before incentives/trades

I'd be interested in knowing what people paid for their truck in relation to the published invoice price on places like cars.com (including destination) before any factory incentives and trades? Is anyone really getting them for LESS than the invoice price published ?

I think 500 back of invoice is more than fair. That only leaves a few hundred dollars profit for the dealer. Depending on timing; you could pick one up for net, which is about what CJ picked his up for.

Frankly, posting total price paid is too vague as there are too many variables. Invoice is invoice, no matter which dealer you visit. Just make sure the dealer finds all the rebates available that you could qualify for (they are very confusing at times).

I can tell you we purchased our 2013 Laramie with the employee price so we knew what invoice was and what dealer net is.Some of the prices I have seen are a bunch of bull.

I've heard from a person I trust at a dealer I was not negotiating anything with that the dealers "real invoice" is not the same as the published invoice online that there really are additional costs the deal has like regional advertising, etc that are legitimately part of his "invoice" cost.

This is why I'm interested to see published online invoice price compared to actual before trade/factory incentive/rebate price. I've looked at and negotiated quite a few and it seems that $500 to $1000 over the online invoice is the best I can get for a truck on the lot. Maybe a special order gets you a better price but I'm talking trucks on the lot.

My exact numbers are over in the "what did you pay" thread, but I got $1500 below invoice with a $200 dealer document fee. The doc fee is also important since it will vary by dealer. Note this was back in June before sales really heated up. I would not expect that today based on how sales are up for all trucks.

I did find you can estimate the invoice quickly by knowing that invoice is ~92.5% of base MSRP + 85% of options MSRP + Destination. If you are shopping multiple Rams across multiple dealers it makes it much easier to compare numbers on a spreadsheet without having to build each vehicle invoice online. You do need to carry the decimal a few more places to the right on the 92.5% base price - I don't remember the exact factor but just divide the online invoice by msrp and take five digits or so to get the most accurate estimate. You will also get some rounding errors on the options, but it should get you within $25 or so of the published invoice.

I pad 1565 less than invoice. Basically the dealer gave me "his" entire holdback.

For those who are not aware is (MSRP - Destination)*3%.
So for my truck is was (53270-1095)*3% = $1565.25

Finding all the rebates is key. My dealership typically submits each customer for all available rebates just to see what comes back. Luckily I qualified for $5250 in rebates so I paid nearly $12k below MSRP.

Also make sure you have them check for mailers. You can submit the customers name and zip when checking rebates and it will list if they qualify for any additional incentives. I have found a couple customers some extra money by doing this.
