Question Bass Processor needed for OEM + new amp?

I plan on keeping my OEM head unit (alpine system) because it is way too expensive to replace and running two new amplifiers (one for new sub and one amp for 4 speakers).

I have read that OEM head units dynamically roll-off/cut-out bass as volume increases to save the speakers. I know bass processors such as the Audiocontrol Epicenter go inline with bass amp to correct this.

Does the OEM head unit really do this, and if so how well do bass processors work?

You are correct sir...however, epicenters are ancient and i would not incorperate one into your system...
you need a normal processor like JBL's MS8, Arc Audio's PS8, Rockford's 3sixty3, Audison's BitTen...something like that. It will allow you to use your factory headunit, eliminate bass protection, and offer A TON of processing/tuning availability.
Audiocontrol has the Lc7 etc...but those will not offer the insane amount of tuning that the ones mentioned above will. I personally like the JBL MS8, 3sixty3, and PS8.
The MS8 has the best "auto tune" by far!!
3sixty3 is very user friendly
and the PS8 is simply unbelievable!
Hope that helps

As mentioned above, you'll need more than that. You'll need a DSP, or at minimum, a LOC with input summing of at least 6 channels. There is no full-range signal present in your existing system. One summed, the OE signal does need a lot of EQing. I'd suggest getting a DSP up front. The system is really horrible to upgrade. The deeper you get into it, the more mad you'll be (if DIY).
