Default need lower profile xm antenna, I can't clear parking garage

Does anyone know if there is an alternative to the tall, shark-fin roof antenna? I have seen other trucks with a lower profile antenna without a fin but I am not sure which model radio that requires. I'm willing to sacrafice xm/nav accuracy, if that why it has the fin.

I need a little more room to clear the concrete ceiling in my office parking structure. The antenna barely clears going up (see pic) but coming down the antenna is about 2" taller due to the angle of the driveway. I had to back down the drive way after this attempt, fortunately I brought a spotter.

The Canadian trucks don't have the fin, must be something to do with the fact that the US trucks have cell phones built it

google xm radio antennas...theres a zillion of em...I use a ROADIE radio on my other vehicles and toss the lill magnetic antenna up on the dash...switching em takes about a minute, but i dont think thats what you have in mind...if you surf around, you could find co's that specialize in these things with cust svc numbers...but...i got a question...does that fin actually have something IN IT, or is it some kind of aerodynamic decoration...because either way, its got to come OFF....btw just looked at mine, flat black thingie, off center toward the driver side on the roof, mebbe 1" high...no fin..I dont hav the nav system....

got me curious...google "xm radio antenna with gps" ... then click on images...surf around by backtracking to the websites themselves if you see something you like...cant imagine the swap itself would be hard...just be sure to weather proof the thing...

The fin contains the antenna for terrestrial communications. Navigation and satellite radio use flat horizontal patch antennas.

I need to remove or modify it somehow. Anyone have pics or drawing of the guts of the antenna? Also, do I need to drop the headliner to remove it?

You could replace it with a Canadian spec antenna, but you will loose your wireless stuff (Bing, apps... whatever runs on Verizon or whoever it is). And you would probably have a service telephone message. The dealer might be able to change As-Built data so the truck doesn't use telephone...

U looking for something like this?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-OE...2b1f18&vxp=mtr

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-OE...21a482&vxp=mtr

http://www.ebay.com/itm/MOPAR-OEM-50...fa0625&vxp=mtr

BTW, there are some '13s, at least on Ram HD, that came with the puck antenna, vs the shark fin.

I think, if you really want to do this right, forget about tearing up the vehicle...unless you absolutely positively know you can do a professional job...go back to your dealer, forget sales, go lean on the parts guys counter...let him fiddle with HIS computer, and see whats out there...if he can find something, order the part...THEN worry about installation....most body shops can do a better job than you ever could...Id be interested in the process for removing that thing....that seems to be the key...

been surfing around in this forum....seem like it unscrews...use a pair of pliers, mebbe with a rag to start it.....

Thanks guys, those ebay links are interesting. I found a listing that has pictures of a fin antenna disassembled (granted, from a different model) but it gives me an idea of whats in there and how I want to proceed.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/400503945663

Looks like I could trim that tall "p" shaped antenna to maintain whatever service that provides (cellular?) and replace the finned outer cover with the the lower profile version that the other trucks offer. It will hinder signal, but it should remain functional.
