Default Interior Defects

Not sure if this is the right place to discuss this. Last Thursday I purchased a 2013 SLT Quad 4x4 and so far am very impressed. Before the test drive I noticed the front left panel on the console (to the right of the gas pedal) did not fit snug at the top. I pointed this out to the salesman so it was "on record". The next day, I inspected everything inside and out and found only a few minor things; only on the inside. The mentioned panel has a broken clip at the top preventing it from fitting securely. I noticed a white spot on the kick plate / door sill assembly by the parking brake pedal. Using a inspection mirror and light, I was able to see the cause; a clip had not inserted in the hole and was pushed to the side causing the plastic to bulge and turn white. Both of these items are minor and easily replaced. Yesterday when I was putting a few things in the upper glove box I noticed a small gouge in the lower left edge of the glove box cover. I did research as to how difficult it would be to remove the cover (this site is awesome) and it looks to be quite easy. I will definately have the two mentioned panels replaced under warranty (will bring in the old pieces and exchange them for replacements and NOT have the dealer instal them LOL). On the glove box door issue; should I just let it be, or should I push for a replacement door? I am quite fanatical about my vehicles and really dont want a gouge when there should not be one, and yet I dont want to be too pickey either. Any imput would really help me out deciding what to do. Also, how many 2013 owners have had similar interior defects? Thanks to all who reply.

What's an inspection mirror?

I'd be careful with taking the parts off yourself and bringing them in for a parts exchange. The dealer could easily say "you broke this part when you took it off" and then your up a creek without a paddle.

I hate dealers doing any kind of interior work as well since they don't generally take the best care on installation and end up marring up other surfaces that were perfectly fine before. If it's hardly noticeable, I just let it go and remember that they'd likely screw up more than they'd fix.

An inspection mirror is a small mirror attached to a telescoping handle. When you put the mirror behind the dash, under a seat, etc. and shine a light on it, it allows you to see from behind.

I know first hand about interior work done at dealerships, having worked at one many years ago. I can remember techs ripping off door panels and hearing clips and brackes snap in the process. Most likely I will leave well enough alone regarding the glove box door so as not to have to deal with additional damage. The other panels have to be addressed though.

Be interesting to see if the truck had any service done prior to when you bought it, generally they dont make so many mistakes on the line. I would look at the service history, the truck may have had a radio/hvac issue when it was delivered and was repaired while in stock. But sometimes people snapping it together on the line screw up and it gets missed, if you can get a peek at the service history that will tell you right away.

Anyhow, the plastic in these scratches pretty easy so it doesnt take much to gouge the plastic parts up. My dealer is pretty cool and if I show them the problems before I go pulling things apart they are fine with ordering the parts and letting me install them, especially interior trim parts. They charge Chrysler for the parts and the labor usually goes to one of the apprentice techs. I worked for Ford and GM as a tech and then in warranty administration for many years so I know how much damage can be done at a dealer by replacing a couple simple panels so I'm with you there.

Its not being picky, its just wanting a brand new truck if you paid for it, those little things like the missed hole/white spot annoy the crap out of me on a new truck. If it left the factory like that then Chrysler should be more than happy to pay for the parts and have you do the QC for them for free. Granted my interior OCD goes away pretty quick when my wife drags her 30lb metal studded purse across the interior panels a couple times..

Not the 30lb studded purse! Oh man! I don't think I would be able to sleep thinking about that. LOL My dealer seems to be really good. When I bought the truck, they let me take it off the lot as is; stickers and all. I told them I did not want anyone doing anything to it. The GM even told the salesman to take it back to the service dept and get the inspection sticker and not let anyone get in it. He did not want one speck of grease on it. So, I dont think there would be a problem with them swapping the parts and letting me install them. If they are okay with that, I will push for a replacement door also since this is a brand new vehicle.

Yea, I never let them take the stickers off anything or detail it when I buy it if not already done. Those kids can tear up an interior in nothing flat with a razor blade and work boots. On my '12 they scraped the little stickers off the tires with a razor blade and gouged two of them down to the cords while I was signing the papers. That was AFTER I said just leave it and dont touch it after I inspected it. I seen the kid taking the stickers off from the office window and had to run outside to stop him before he got inside lol.

They had to swap the wheels and tires off another new truck since I drove in from out of state and I refused to take it with those tires. Sad part s I'm sure they just left them on the other truck as-is or just turned them around on the rim and someone else ended up with them.

Another thing to think about. They probably don't have those parts in stock so you would be driving around with missing parts on your vehicle waiting for those to come in.

Picky is when your favorite burger joint puts pickles on your burger and you asked for no pickles.
When you lay down 30+ large for something new, you expect it to be without defects or flaws.

I agree that you should have the panels replaced, but guess what....gouges and scratches happen. These trucks seem to attract them. I am more than a little "anal" about my truck but still have several small scratches, marring and even a couple gouges that just seemed to happen...no kiddos, no studded purses. I never lay anything on the dash. Good luck. Now let me tell you about the result of hitting a deer with my brand new truck.... The result was a lot more serious than interior scratches.
