Default Bad! Bump Steer

I have an 06 MC lowered with a Belltech kit and riding on 22's. Its a cool truck but I live in Seattle where potholes are REALLY common. The bump steer is really bad, but the alignment shop says that the suspension is maxed out on its adjustability, so I need adjustable ball joints to correct this.

Anyone been through this? Do you think this will fix my problem? Been dealing with it for a while, chalking it up to just driving a lowered vehicle. But I am kinda tired of it now and want to fix it if I can. Might even raise the truck if I have to.

TIA for any help.

I can't help you with the bump steer, but I sure would like to see a pick of your ride.

Take a look at Michigan Metal Works, they have a really nice set of upper control arms with a uniball joint that might help ya out. They do a lower arm as well if you're interested, but the combo is pretty pricey.

Thanks, I'll take a look. I am thinking that if i just put a 1" coil spacer in the front it would lift it up into the range of being able to dial in the alignment again. The big question is, "what the hell is it???" Aftermarket doesnt really support a 1500 MegaCab 2wd, so the lowering kit in it must have been pieced together. So is the front end made up of 1/2 ton parts or 3/4 ton parts? I think I have to call the dealer to find that out...

It's basically a 3/4 ton truck.

So I found out from the dealer what was confirmed here; it's basically a 3/4ton truck.

Then I went to Les Schwab (I know; mistake) to see about putting a 1" coil spacer in the front to give me back some travel and possibly put the geometry back in range of adjustability. After guessing what had been done to the truck, since a lowering "kit" doesnt exist for a 3/4 MC, here is how the conversation went...

"what you need to do is put stock springs back in the front, and that'll bring the front up about 3"."

"I only want to bring it up 1". 3 is too high"

"After you do that, you're going to want to reverse that axle flip that has been done to the rear, and possibly take out the overload bags"

"why take out the overload bags? they dont have anything to do with it. And I dont want to touch the rear end. I only want to bring the front up 1" or so"

"well they dont have springs that will only bring it up an inch, so you'd best go with the stock springs. but then you'll have to lift the back too, cuz you'll be nose-up if you don't"

"why cant i just put some 1" coil spacers in the front?"

"they dont make them for your truck"

"I see them in the catalog right there..."

"those are strut spacers. you dont have struts because you're 2wd. you have coils"

"but it says coil spacers"

long pause... "yeah, those are for 4wd's"

"alright; thanks for your time"

Went home and did a 5 minute Google search. Found the parts I need for $40 bucks; they'll be here tomorrow. They may not completely solve the problem, but they'll definitely help.

Les Schwab... really? That's like going to double A, M C O for your tranny issues. But, you admitted your error in judgement and actually learned a thing or two.

Nice find on the google search. Pics when you get them installed.

if it was me i'd go to a custom spring shop and show them what you wanna do and why than ask them to "adjust" a spring that would work and eliminate the need for the spacer. but as i said thats me not you. i hope it works for you id like to see it after your done thats a sweet ride you got.
